Internals make a big difference as well... your argument could be used for the FZ1 versus the R1... yet the FZ1 is 20kgs or so heavier... why? namely because of the heavier crankcase I think.

The Sports bikes are trying to out do each other so much the manufacturers shave a few grams off of every component to save weight and boost power...I cant see the point of buying a bike like the FZ1 and spending thousands on improving it's performance when you can buy a sports bike with it already done... but likewise you are not going to buy a ÂŁ7k bike and get the same performance as one costing ÂŁ2k more.

official specs released by honda belgium:

Type Liquid-cooled 4-stroke 16-valve DOHC
Displacement 998 cmÂł
Max power Output 92kW / 10.000min (95/1/EC) ( 127 hp )
Max torque 100Nm / 8.000min (95/1/EC)

Fuel capacity 17 litres (including 4-litre warning)
Dimensions 2,105 x 785 x 1.095mm
Kerb weight 217kg (F: 106kg; R: 111kg) ( 222kg F:108kg; R: 114kg ) >> ABS
Tyre front 120/70 ZR17M/C (58W)
Tyre rear 180/55 ZR17M/C (73W)

Max power Output 92kW / 10.000min (95/1/EC) ( 127 hp )
Max torque 100Nm / 8.000min (95/1/EC)
Both power and torque are down on the FZ1, and torque isn't much improved over the 900. Dry weight will be about 194kg, same as the 900.

But power is up on the 900 and we assume with improved handling, it also looks more up to date than any other bike out there. I still think the big factor when you consider all the 0% finance deals about will be the cost.

Also based on the torque value, I'd say it will feel much like a FZ1 to about 80 or 90 but then will start to drop off.... max speed about 140mph depending on how high it revs I guess.

That seems pretty close to what I had from Italy a few months back. I hope it will get to more than 140 else it'll not be much faster than the 600 Hornet, which gets 130+ (indicated, granted).

Do we know if this is a rear-wheel or crank based figure? I'm guessing crank?

Just for reference, here is the 900 Hornet's figures as quoted by Honda

By the way, in my opinion, the most important aspect to look at is "where" power and torque are located on the power and torque graph...
I't not enough to know max values...

I do agree with you there completely, but I still want to see higher figures personally. Not massively higher, but higher nonetheless.

Here's a comparison over the quoted figures from Honda UK for the 06/07 Blade on which the engine is based and the CBF1000 which also has the same engine but detuned further:

06/07 Fireblade
126.4kW / 11,250min-Âą (95/1/EC) (170 hp)
114.5Nm / 10,000min-Âą (95/1/EC)

08 CB1000R
92kW / 10,000min-Âą (95/1/EC) (123 hp)
100Nm / 8,000min-Âą (95/1/EC)

06 CBF1000
72 kW/8,000 min-Âą (95/1/EC) (96 hp)
97 Nm/6,500 min-Âą (95/1/EC)

By the way 92kw are not 127hp but 123.3!!!
I did think that sounded wrong. I looked back and my original info said 94kW which I worked out to be 126hp. Didn't bother to check my own calculations :D

I agree Bill, I shall wait for now. In fairness, have we seen anything concrete that says that this is the spec according to Honda? I looked on Honda.be and I couldn't see where it said anything about power yet. It doesn't help that I don't speak French or Dutch mind you.
