Just did a search to save starting a new thread and this is the closest I could find that’s relevant. I already have two brand new boxed Genuine Honda oil filters part number 15410-MCJ-505. I would obviously like to use them, looking online at websites in England that part fits the CB, however, there are only 6 holes and it looks different to the one the OP swapped over. Could anyone confirm for me please.

Thank you for the reply. On the Fowler’s genuine Honda parts website it says 15410-MFJ-D02 is not available and has been replaced by 15410-MCJ-505? I can see what you mean in the piece you highlighted though. I might try another UK source to see if I can get them.

It's either possible that the part number has been superseded or Honda uses different part numbers in the US and UK. Interesting that the latest NSC on Fowlers website is MY 2018

I’ve found another reputable Honda dealer over here (Padgetts) that’s got them in so ordered two new oil filters, 15410-MFJ-D02. Dilemma over I’ll just replace like with like and be done with it. Appreciate the support 👍

I went in to Fowlers Bristol today to buy a ‘D02’ filter to service a friend’s Black Edition.
They actually showed me the latest model year ‘exploded diagram’ on their desktop PC which totally convinced me that the 505 part number does supersede the original D02.
They also said that either is the ‘correct’ filter.
My electronic receipt even states both part numbers.
I trust them implicitly as they’re ‘old hands’ in Fowlers spares department, and bought one without question.

I trust Fowler’s too. I now have both filters at home here D02 and 505, they are physically different though , one has 6 larger holes, the other 8 smaller holes. I haven’t actually worked it out but I did wonder if the area of the holes is actually the same? I was curious why they changed, there must be a reason. Oil flow? Oil pressure? Something to do with Euro5? In the end I went with the D02 simply because that was what I took off, I will use the others up another time. They are on the shelf waiting patiently……

I‘m equally curious. I think it’s having an engineering background ?
I too reckon it could be down to flow or pressure, but Honda will never explain themselves, I’m sure !
However, it could simply be Honda trying to rationalise the number of different part-number filters they produce across their range of bikes ?
I’ve been in the same situation as I was today some years ago with Yamaha oil filter part numbers being superceded. I almost got into an argument with Fowlers.
In the end though I was quite happy to shut up eat humble pie once I’d seen it in writing.
Incidentally I‘m looking to buy a CB1000R in the near future as I was SO impressed when I rode this one that I’m servicing !

Interesting discussions ... I just did a search here in the US, the 505 filter is about 1/2 the price of the D02 on eBay.
If it's compatible, it may be worth it. But, I cannot see the 505 listed in the official listing associated to our bikes here in the US.

The D02 is Made in China.
Any idea where the 505 is made?

Hi ArtyY
Just taken a couple of photos of the one I bought yesterday.
Seems they’re made in France by a company called Purflux.
I was certainly comfortable using the 505 on my mate’s CB1000R as it’s the very same part number that’s quoted for my own 2017 Fireblade SP. I’ve been using them

for the last 5 years without the slightest problem (I‘ve done ALL my own oil changes from new)

Thanks, for the confirmation.
Well, looks like we have an alternative if we need one.
