So it sounds like you may have low oil pressure at idle. It could be a bad oil pump or pressure sensor. What year is your bike and what's on the odometer?

 

the bike is a 2022 and 19000 kilometres (12000 miles) the oil pump seems to be working as the oil disappears from the window on start up

 

Right, but the oil pressure changes with RPM. So it's either actually low at idle, or the oil pressure sensor is faulty. I've owned a lot of Hondas and have never had a low pressure light except during the first start after an oil/filter change, which is normal. You'll probably need a qualified motorcycle tech to sort it out.

any difference between on side stand and upright?
assume level was checked after running a bit to fill filter, and/or oil filter was pre-filled?

 

(the issue was there before the ol/filter change).

Owners manual says the following, but doesn't mention about idling on side stand... (ah, i meant in above post.. any difference in oil pressure light between on side stand and upright not just checkign oil level)

"Rapid acceleration may momentarily cause the low oil pressure indicator to come on, especially if the oil is at or near the low level."

So before I ride any of my Hondas, I start them on the side stand and let them idle while I put on helmet and gloves. I've never had a low oil pressure warning except during the first start after an oil/filter change and always with the filter pre-filled.
