well. it was supposed to be a nice ride to the coast and then ride to brighton. enjoy the sun and the roads.

instead it was a ride on the m25 (to meet my mate) stop at a station and see my right caliper wet from fork oil :(
quick removal of the dust seal and stucking some tissue up there and a slow ride home in a might add busy m25

bike is getting seals replaced and heavier oil put in on Tues

Not going to do your fork springs as well, better set up for your style and weight?

hmm.. well it will be my next mod, im over braking a bit hard and getting to a stand still. 10-20 seconds later as im waiting for traffic the forks pop up about 2 cm like they were stuck down for a moment, oil pressure just released as mine are set on hard thus different forks to help with riding and braking.

Good luck with it, i had seen them on ebay 90 euro with the oil WILBERS Gabelfedern HONDA CB 1000 R SC 60 08 item number 390268344226

my mechanic mate just brought the bike back - apparently as soon as the fork caps came off there was a shhhhh sound of escaping air! which as far as i know shouldnt happen.?? like there was too much air in the forks? i had the settings (as per that us mag) preload 3 out from full, rebound full and compression 1 out from full. could it be because i had the settings too hard?

there were no obvious singns on the forks or any broken seals btw

ive got heavier oil in there (15) now and we have backed of the compression by 1

any thoughts ?

If the seal showed no signs of damage, how did it leak? There would be more air in the forks than normal because there was less oil. I don't think the forks can have too much air in them when filled with the correct amount of oil as the air gap is not pressurised as far as I know. Not sure the fork settings would create your problem either, but I would like to know what did. Do you really have your rebound set at full? How do the forks feel with the heavier oil?

when i tried to stop the leak at the side of the road i cleaned inside/behind the dust seal as much as i could. and there were some specs of dirt. there was also some white residue? so it could just have been dirt??

but that doesnt explain the air pressure

i do have the rebound at full as per 2011 Honda CB1000R Full Test | Fashionably Late - Sport Rider Magazine

heavier oil feels good. the bike doesnt seem to sunk as much (i weigh 93kg without gear) and they dont bottom out under heavy breaking

Is this the first time the seals have been changed.

good question. i dont know.
