I know a few people who used bog-standard chains and they last 20,000 miles+ because they keep them well maintained, so I don't think it's a big deal if you're prepared to keep on top of it, but if you change the chain, change the sprockets too!

Took me a couple of mins to realise 5k was 5,000 miles and not £5,000! I was going to say I hope the chain and sprockets are made of diamond for that price! :banghead

I'd check to see if there was any kind of warranty on the chain... how did the ring come off?...

I think well lubed the chain will be OK but you will have to keep an eye on it... if you are concerned then just replace (with new sprockets).

X or O ring... I don't think it makes much difference really.

New chain/sprx went on end of march. Renthall/Tzubaki gold combo.Cleaned only with parafin and correctly maintained. Ring just appeared to be dangling out on inspection...........oerr missus !!!. Saying that, it has been ridden harder than Seabiscuit recently and at times underwater.
Local fixie dealer says to keep riding 'till next service and replace the lot. He said that it wo'nt break but will develop a tight spot very soon.

Surely it is faulty then.... chains have to take a lot of abuse... so 3 months of wear is hardly acceptable...

Have you done 5K miles in that time though?? :eek

5040 since. 40,000 miles and it hast'nt had its first MOT yet. Kinda get carried away, bit like Forest gump and his running. I'll be the guinea pig on the CB for real world mileage. 3 bikes, no car, understanding missus !!!
