Just found this site as have been considering a street bike for some time and stumbled across pics of the new C1000r.....it looks awesome.....BUT

i have mainly owned performance sports bikes recently and was wondering if anyone on here has gone from sports bike to street bike and what there experiences are.....power, handling wise etc....

Currently have a gixer 750K5 but have been thinking of changeing for some time.....looked at the FZ1 and the Z1000....the FZ1 has that fueling glitch and the cans of the new Z1000 are fugly.....

Any advice welcome.....

Hi Mummbler, and :welcome

I myself have never even ridden a sports bike as they've not really appealed to me as much as a naked, but I have a lot of mates with 600 sports bikes and one with a GSXR600 rode my Hornet 600 and much preferred it, though he did admit that the windblast would take some getting used to.

I know other members have owned sports bikes so hopefully they'll be along shortly to give a better opinion of the differences.

I've got an old Z1000 and agree with your comments on the new on... I thought Yamaha had fixed the fuelling on the FZ from the 07 model year onwards...

Either way, I'd suggest you ride one of them. The sports bikes are just getting too track focussed IMO.

Sorry mummbler that I can't help you. From sports bikes I only rode Kawasaki ZX-6R and as expected you have to drive it more sporty and rev it higher since I'm use to the Hornet at first I was not to comfortable in it. :shake
I'm not the highest person (180 cm) but I felt that there was not enough room for my knees and to get it from 1st gear to neutral it was fu.cking hard. :angry

So what about Yamaha MT-01 ... did anyone thought about buying it!? Or why not!? :notme

:potty I really don't like the MT01, I think it's a real Marmite bike. People all love it or hate it, nobody seems slightly inclined either way.

Personally I'm happy to have an underslung exhaust instead of under-seat/high-level. I like short, pointy tails on bikes and the CB's is almost perfect. Looking at the group test of the latest 1000cc super bikes in MCN today too I think the GSXR1000 has the best cans too in the standard position. I dunno why, I just like them like that. If I had a Speed/Street Triple for example I'd probably remove the underseat cans and replace them with the Arrow conventional cans. Again, personal choice though :D

Yep I agree with much of what's been said... as for the FZ1... the snatchy throttle problem has been fixed and the current 0% finance option makes it very attractive..... Honda could lose alot of CB1000R sales if they don't start getting some facts out to potential buyers.

I currently have a Hornet 600, the CB1000R is on my wish list but finances may not allow it this year :thumbdown

They may, however, stretch to the bike I've been hankering over for some time, a K6/7 GSX R750 :lick . Plan on taking a test ride in the next couple of months, think it could fill the gap until I can afford a litre bike.

Put the lights back and the can and it's not that different cosmetically to the K6/7 bikes which I love, and the only reason for the bigger can apparently is because people complained that the standard can is too loud on the previous model. Yeah, right

Tomorrow morning I have a guy to see and maybe buy my 600 Hornet and I'm a bit scared that he might buy it! What am I gonna do if he does!? :flame

P.S. he doesn't like my exhaust! :cry

I've seen mixed opinions on those cans. Some people really love them, others not so much. If you sell it then I guess you want a knock-about bike while you wait for a CB eh? :D This is why I'm not parting with the Hornet just yet :D

He offered me s 3.700€ and I'm not sure I want to sell it for that price! :notme also not sure what to do because it will be a while before I can get CB1000R! :rolleyes
Well I also have a standard can so there is no problem to change it to the standard one!

Well none of us here have a CB1000R yet :lol

Did you get a price you were happy with? I'd get something like a second hand CBF500; cheap bikes to run, handle OK though down on power. Shouldn't loose much money then to hold out until the CB1000R is ready for you :thumbup That's probably how I'll do it

Good suggestion ... I still have some time think it over! Will see! :8

About my price ... well it's never enough for me! :rollin I always try to get the most I can. Three years I owned the bike and that's too long for me. I knew all the small things that bothered me! Today when cleaning I saw that front fork seal was leaking and the bike had few scratches. I was not the first owner and I wasn't doing services at Honda dealer. The final price was 3.800 EUR and it wouldn't be easy to get a lot more. Time for a change! :smoke
