Morning All!
Just registered and thought I should say hi :thumbup
Currently have a Daytona 955i which is due to get replaced this year, Speed Triple was the obvious choice! BUT now i'm not so sure....
I have been watching this board for a while since this bike was announced and I am deffinately taken with it!!
My local Honda (Bournemouth) dealer has a CB1000R "visiting" on 2nd May and will be taking deposits from then on, £500 non-refundable!!
I have never even remotely concidered buying a bike I have not test ridden prior, how many of you guys have really been that brave??!!
Is it really that good?? MCN seem to think so, but no back to back tests yet.....
:help

Your right!!
But I should have mentioned that the bike they are getting is NOT a demonstrator and will not even run (so they say). Their demo bike will not be in for another month or so and their total allocation of CB1000Rs for this year is only 4-5!!
Time to take a gamble! Flip a coin someone!! :pray :pray

Big decision mate... :notme

Don't think I'd lay 500 of your 'hard earned' down as non-refundable dep' without at least a 'go' on one... :shake

I'm keen, but to part with over 7K of 'readies' the bike has to be way above the rest.

I've always been a Honda man but my head has been turned by the Street & Speed Triple... :thumbup
...and with the current cost of the Street Triple... :banghead

Hi BigMac and a very warm :welcome to you.

I know that P&H (Crawley) are asking for £100 deposits as I was looking at their website the other night. But have you checked out Doble Motorcycles, if you do buy one from them you'll be able to get some massive discounts on day one.... I know it is further for you to travel but the savings might make it worth your while.

Give Paul Styles a call, you won't get the hard sell and if you mention the club he'll do everything possible to help you.

Hi BigMac :welcome

When I bought my first Hornet I had only sat on the bike to see how it felt. It felt good so I bought it. To this day my only complaint with it is that the 600 has too little torque. Maybe I have too much blind faith in others opinions but people seem really taken with the CB1000R now and I'm pretty sure that a sit on the bike would confirm that it is the next bike for me with no need for a test ride. That's not to say I don't want a test ride, rather that I don't think it's necessary.

If you have doubts though I think you should wait. £500 is a lot of money to throw away when you may not like the bike. I'm a little surprised that they're doing it this way TBH; if there are so few bikes coming in then you'd think that they'd be happy to give you your money back as the likelihood is that there will be loads of others queuing up behind you to buy one ASAP. Shame this policy may cost them a sale.

Anyway, :welcome again. I hope you do like the bike and stick around for plenty of time to come :thumbup

I bought my first 600 Hornet without a test ride as it was a deal done over the telephone and was too good to miss....

I certainly wasn't disappointed, but it's not the way to do it really... every bike since I have at least had a little ride about on first.

Welcome BigMac (FFS, I'm starving, last thing I need to read :stop ).

Aren't MCN doing a group test in the next 2 weeks? Might be worth waiting for that as the Triumph is bound to feature in it.

:welcome Big Mac.I too bought a 'bike,Hornet 900,without a test ride.I just read up on it and decided to get one.I had already been smitten by it's cracking good looks.Of course it was not a new model so it had been well tried and tested not like this one.If I sat on a CB1000r,liked it and had the cash I would go ahead and buy one!! (I do fancy the pants off it btw!!) My Niner is more than enough 'bike for me so I don't really give a toss about horsepower and torque as long as it's no less than what I've got.A couple of accidents have calmed some of the hooligan in me!! (Cue predictable gay joke from Jjon!).

Guys,
Thanks for your views! I was a little suprised by my dealers policy on a deposit, Dan I am sure you are right, I will talk to Dobles and maybe a couple of other dealers and see what other deals i can strike!
Think an order has got to be done though, surely after MCNs views this week there will be a fair bit of interest, its a Honda after all!! Just hope its got plenty of character...... :banghead hmm back to comparing with Speed Triple oh b0ll0x square one again!!
