Hi all,
New here, in fact I am back 20 odd years after giving up riding (couple of reasons, new wife and no full licence)
Let me explain, originally from Yorkshire so back in the 80s you could get away being an illegal rider…only risk was to myself. Nowadays it’s virtually impossible. I started early days with the RD125LC and the DT equivalent. That went onto superdreams (budget rat bikes back then) and then the usuals Honda CB climb….all streetfighter look.
Now I’m 55 I finally did my direct access and passed so I bought a 2015 CB1000RA, love it!! Bought some handlebar risers and a screen, ride so much better at say 70+. Usually do a ten mile round trip for a paper lol, any excuse.
I bought the bike from a local dealer who originally supplied it so aware of the history. Thinking of changing the end can, something not too loud but makes the bike sound like a 1000cc and not a 500. Any thoughts??

I’m 55 so know Dallas and the Yewins! Mother and sister where big fans, I was up to no good so didn’t watch it that much! Of course when video players came out it was box set heaven for them. Nice Mercedes was Bobbys ride. Anyway, digress, super unleaded over here is the fuel of choice for bikes of a certain calibre.
my youth days involved a RD125LC and a DT125LC which I wrecked the back end wheeling after de-restricting the exhaust port….washer out lol. New back end was ordered. What where your early nostalgic rides that are worth thousands now?

My first street bike was 1982 Kawasaki 750 GPZ, sold it in 1984 for a VF700F Interceptor.

My first new bike was a Norton Commando 750cc in 1971. It just fell apart in the 8 months and 12k miles I owned it, so traded it in for a Japanese more reliable bike.

My poster bike back then was a RD350LC white, remember the poster well. I also remember an article about a guy who cobbled 2 x 250LC engines together and fitted it into a 350 frame. It looked mental and a one off in full black! I wonder if it’s still about. Had a dream 250 deluxe, deluxe being no kickstart and a dodgy electric start. I found most bikes of the late 70s 80s had dodgy wiring looms. Here’s a funny story, I was in my early 20s waiting at traffic lights in the rain on my streetfighter CB750 and looked down to see that my ht leads where arcing. So silly northerner here decides to whip out my trusty wd40 and caked the head while engine still running! Can only guess what happened next. Bloody inferno…only just tanked it up. So next thing was to try and blow it out..(with my visor closed!) which didn’t work, killed the switch, jumped off, bike fell over….looked up to see 2 girls pissing themselves in the car next to me. All happened in about 3 seconds. Anyway, flames went out and no lasting damage, only to my ego lol.
Anyway, reason for update is this.Still got the bike and love it. Deffo power to get me out of trouble (and in trouble, glad to say not yet). Really surprised out how nimble it is even though it’s quite heavy. Front is light and the low torque always blows me away. Yet to experience what it is capable of but I did watch a rolling road YouTube of this model that hit 290kph which is about 185mph. My missus wasn’t pleased, she thinks it’s a middle weight 50 brake lol. Done 1700 miles so far without a hitch. I mentioned on one of my earlier posts about a large bang underneath at 10 mph. Turns out it was a nail in my back tyre. Which upon full inspection turned out to have a further 2 smaller ones and a plug fix. I bought the bike with this tyre from a dealership. Told them about it and they didn’t care, and that’s the founders son!!! I heard more bad stories about them so I went to another dealer and got a new tyre fitted. If I was going to change one thing, going to leave the end can for a bit because I get on with my neighbours lol, is a rear hugger etc. My bike has a shorter hugger and the wet road muck just gets kicked up everywhere including all over my back. So I found one online especially for this model for £100, pay day next week and birthday soon. Also toying with the idea of getting a belly pan. Got a camera as I’m sick of them bloody delivery scooters appearing from nowhere.
So that’s my catch up. Safe riding

Kawasaki 750. I heard this model was used in the original Top Gun, only that they didn’t. They dressed up a 500 to look like one as the 750 looked too big for Cruise to ride on

Hi Guys!
Much needed update from recent exploits.
Currently done approx 3500 on her, and she hasn’t let me down what so ever.
After the tyre incident further up the page I had a new one fitted as mentioned. Well a couple of months later I picked up a self tap screw bolt…perils of traffic filtering. I had it professionally fixed and at the same time new rear pads…a bit too much dragging back brake slow moving..me thinks.
Anyway onwards! You still with me?
Experience Winter Months. Bike is secured outside with a lined cover. The really cold mornings was not a problem, started first turn. Worst it would start second turnover and that was because battery dipped slightly. It never let me down, only I did wishing I had heated grips.
The handling over the months has been unbelievable, nimble as a 125 and stops on a penny..abs deffo a front end saver. Still yet to scratch it. Also surprised how much respect the bike brings, for an older rider lol.
Last week I eventually decided to do a 500 mile round trip to my homeland Yorkshire. Ups, not much other than them lovely roads of old times. Downs..didn’t prep properly for a long ride, stopped twice for fill up, there and back. Average speed was 75, anything more than that wasn’t comfortable. Keeping the throttle balanced and holding on, due to wind blast was tiring. My hand was almost numb by the time I reached the end. It wasnt until I was advised to get a Oxford Palm Rest for the throttle was when I realised I already had one in my rucksack. Hasten to say my return home was a more pleasant ride with it attached, image below. Managed to experience a bit of what this bike is all about on a very empty stretch of A road! That didn’t last long, struggling to hold on.

On advice from a biker mate, who has 2 tuned R1s, he says it’s not advisable to update the end can with an aftermarket as I would need to update the tuning mapping as this engine is already finely balanced with the stock one. Anyhow I am not going to add one as there is more than enough noise and power for anyone on these uk roads
Sorry for going on, just want to share with you.
Going to another local meet next week, last one had 40k turn up!!

On advice from a biker mate, who has 2 tuned R1s, he says it’s not advisable to update the end can with an aftermarket as I would need to update the tuning mapping as this engine is already finely balanced with the stock one.
If you keep the CAT and only replace the muffler, a tune is not needed if you bolt on a street legal Akrapovič or SC-Project, etc. I decided on a SC-Project because for me it's easier to deal with when the rear wheel has to be removed.

I may have my info a bit back to front! Was nursing a beer when I did the post last night. Makes a bit more sense now, still tho… I’m going to hold off on the back can for now. Missus would freak, she’s got dental work coming up!! I said I’d do it with some pliers, wouldn’t cost anything but a bit of pain lol

2010 CB1000R last year. I just hated the original end can it came with, so bought an after market one from Max Torque Cans. A British company who make the silencers themselves. Kept the cat on though, but took the small end baffle out of the new silencer. It now has a lovely deep sound to the bike without being too noisy on my old ears. As you can see in the photo, I like the old style of exhaust.

Hi, now I do like that setup. May think about changing soon. Will see how much that setup is. Also toying with the idea of a belly pan
