NSC fork seals

426 Views 26 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Bevo
Got a leaky fork seal after about 20,000 km due to my terrible wheelie abilities and setting it down too hard too often. I was going to take them in but last year the shop charged me $400 to change the seals on my kawasaki so I decided to do it myself. Watched a couple videos and doesn't look too complicated. Got them apart today and letting them drain, should have time to put it back together tomorrow.

I find the traction control to be the biggest problem, when its on you cant use the quick shifter, and if it gets high enough it just cuts the power completely and drops the bike, these have been the worst and the last time is the one I suspect of finishing the seal, I think I almost crushed one of my nuts too. I try to remember to shut if off everytime I get on, I wish it could be turned off and stay off.
with the wheel in the air it wont let me shift with the quickshifter, if I remember it just flashes the gear and wont shift until its back down. I tried numerous times to click into 2nd with the wheel up leaving a light and it has never let me, unless I turn TC off.
I don't understand what you mean by roll OFF the throttle;). When leaving from a stop the bike prefers to be full throttle at least until winding out 2nd gear, then its ok to roll off a little when shifting into 3rd. At least thats how my bike likes to behave!!

I knew what you meant, I was being sarcastic about not knowing how to let off on the gas a little. It was a poor attempt at making a go fast joke. I clutchless shift quite often on my other bikes, its not really much slower than using the quickshifter.

Interesting, I've tried numerous times , maybe I wasn't being forceful enough but it was on a few occasions. I'll be out on the bike later today, I got the forks back in after dinner yesterday and it rides good, I was surprised how dirty the oil was after only a year and half and 20,000 km. My zx6 got a leaky seal a couple days after the cb so that's on the agenda for this morning

Not clutching up, just hard off the lights and with the tire in the air between 7-10k just trying to click into 2nd

I don't usually have that problem, I am typically wearing steel toe work boots. I'll see if I have time to grab the gopro and see if I can film it.
These are my dress shoes for work :ROFLMAO:
You can see the shifter is wearing out the boots more than the work is !

I need a new pair, you can see the part that wraps around the heal is coming off, it keeps catching on the heel guard on my zx6, so lots of times I go to hit a downshift coming into a corner and my foot is stuck, it has provided a couple pucker moments!!
So when the wheel is up and try to shift, it goes into 2nd and the tc flashes and cuts the throttle setting the bike back down, once the front is down after a second or so it gives the fuel back

I thought you were saying that it was letting you click into 2nd and keep going. The tc on the nsc should be better for a modern top of the line naked. I wish it would stay off or at least turn it off while moving.
