I posted this to a build thread in the NSC forum, but moving here for visibility.
I got my body-mounted taillights done this weekend (made from these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001LV0Q5G. I was going to have something 3D printed for mounting these, but got impatient and epoxied them. My future self will hate this choice some day.
Testing out orientation, I really wanted this to work. The angle was nearly perfect. However, the lights were not visible at all being immediately perpendicular to them, and I wanted to maintain some visibility there.
This method seemed the best. When these trim pieces are mounted, the front of these LED lights are almost perfectly perpendicular to the ground, and bringing them out in this way seemed like the safest solution while still maintaining the aesthetics I was going for.
Taped into place and applied power.
Strong 3M tape was not enough. I added some epoxy along the sides to keep them more firm. I cut the existing turn signals to rob the connection, and soldered them to the new signal wires. I drilled a hole in this other piece here to better run the wires and make them more hidden, while also trying to make sure they aren't also touching the radiator.
A little bit of 3M and epoxy wasn't giving the confidence I was hoping for. I ground down a small metal bracket I had in my scrap box and added way more epoxy. Mounting is firm. My future self, wherever he may be, hates this.
No one's really going to see this.
Both sides back together, wires ran, and looking good.
Worth it? I think so. What do you think?
Findings: An observation I had while riding, is that the right turn signal was pulsing at normal speed, however, the left was pulsing more quickly. When I got home, I powered the bike off, and tried taking a video of it, but both lights are pulsing more quickly. I guess it's time to find a relay to compensate for these LEDs. I saw a post that said LED turn signal relays aren't compatible with these NSC bikes. Is that true? If so, does anyone have an idea of what Ohm resistor should resolve this? Also, since the front turn signals are 2-wire and not 3 like other NSCs I've seen on here, what's the method to disable DRL for the signals? It's fine if disabling it is overly complicated, but am still curious if it's possible.
