Medium Rare

it is a collection of B-sides from the Mighty Mighty Bosstones.

I first heard them on TFI Friday - possibly the only decent thing Chris Evans did was to have them play. Oh and to boff Billie Piper.

Do yourselves a favour - get some Bosstones.

Honestly; pretty much anything. I'm a huge REM fan and I'm getting back into Around The Sun (the last album). I'm very much liking the Plain White T's album, as well as OK Go's album Oh No, plus more :D

Oh God.

Listen, I will try to be gentle.

I read the opening words of your post with an open mind. And then I read...... 'REM fan'.

Words truly fail me.

Utter shite. MOR (if you need to look that up - start with cats eyes). Groan...... 40 million albums of musical beige......... REM = Magnolia - it's what people use as background music for crying out loud, it is Muzak's illegitimate brother.

Obviously it is all subject to taste.... but...... REM?

Is this a joke? Ok, so not a Ska fan.... not everyone likes the trumpet (in that sense).

Where do you stand on Simply Red....? (I was being sarcastic)

I think I need to puke!

Haha don't listen to hmm Ant... I have...erm........hmm yes I do have the Out of Time album in my collection... but I hardly think that TAD would approve of my music collection....

TAD...where do you stand on Rare Groove and Jazz Funk for example....

Though most of my stuff is biased toward music of (and to generalise) music of black origin, I appreciate all sorts of other stuff too... although perhaps my idea of Rock might be something like Radiohead, but that would be pretty middle of the road for TAD I think.

I saw Radiohead about 10 years ago, they were great live, but yeah a bit MOR.

I'm not into Metal exclusively though. My fave bands in no particular order are (and I am limiting this to 5):

Metallica
Smashing Pumpkins
Rush
Reel Big Fish
Presidents of the United States of America

I have been to eight different concerts for just these 5 bands, quite a diverse mix I think.

Jazz Funk - this is something I would like to learn more about - recommendations please.

Ant - if you like OK Go - you might like Modest Mouse. Check out 'Good News for People Who Love Bad News' if you don't totally love 'Float On' then there must be something wrong with you.

I like Metallica and Smashing Pumpkins, they're cool. As I said, I like many things but those listed were the ones I have been listening to the most recently. I like Linkin Park's latest album too as well as The Fratellis :thumbup

TAD... phew... Jazz Funk...

Erm it's extremely broad I'd say... in the same way as say "Rock" and "Metal" have changed over the decades so has Jazz Funk. I suppose if you take the more kind of melodic sounds of jazz and give them a rougher, basser sound, lots of percussion and hints of latin sounds you'd be someway to getting Jazz Funk.

Some examples...and are quite diverse, some more commercial than others might be...

(Roy Ayers is kinda like the godfather of Jazz Funk I'd say)

Early Level 42... such as this track - Love Games would be very much considered Jazz Funk... (wicked bass playing)

So called... Jap Jazz/Funk (smooth.....)

Azymuth... one of the key Jazz Funk bands, remember when you listen to this stuff you have to put it into context of the time, the technology available, music production, trends... this sort of stuff, dance music, disco.... all having an influence on the future hip hop and house music scene.

Even the scotch could do it....

And a modern take on the genre... by German producers Jazzanova... (sweet...must admit I haven't heard this track before and I like it alot)...if you listen you can here the almost signature jazz funk sound.... the vibes :)

What looks to be a good wiki article here (not read it fully yet) - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jazz-funk

Hahaha that'll be P-Funk... look up Parliament, don't really have any P-Funk to be honest.... don't dislike what I have heard of it... probably just don't know enough about it really to buy the good stuff.... reminds me of Hip Hop fused with Glam Rock and Funk. :notme

Click the Youtube button just above the posting window and then past in the URL from Youtube... so before you submit the message it should look something like this...
