A bit of a odd one, the fuel display on my 2010 bike flashes, so the bars appear to flash at opposide sides, so going from the middle out left and right.......... any ideas ?

Flashes all the time even with a full tank?

Yep, full, half full..... does not matter, in fact you cannot tell how full the tank is due to the guage flashing. The digital bars are just going from side to side out from the middle of the guage.

My guess is either the FUEL UNIT 37800-MFN-D01 has gone bad or the display itself is failing

Check the connections under the tank , the fuel bar usually flashes when the fuel pump is disconnected, which would indicate possible fault in the pump itself.

If the fuel pump was disconnected the bike wouldn't run

Indeed but it is indicative of a failure at the pump itself. The pump may be priming and functional but the level gauge built into it is failing most likely

Pretty sure this FUEL UNIT 37800-MFN-D01 is the fuel level sensor
