Hi there, I have a 2010 cb1000r with 9k on the clock that I have owned for a few months now. The old owner had the bike sat a while so with in the first few weeks the petrol gauge was going centre out showing a fault I’ve ran it with good fuel and that has now stopped doing that completely for the past month. So now ide start the bike okay on a morning and nip 5 minutes down the road and the bike would fail or struggle to start jump with leads and it’s fine ride to work 40 miles starts straight away. Last week I was going to work and at high revs the bike would lose power completely sometimes ignition stays on some times it doesn’t. When I broke down completely the bike would not start again and even eventually the hazard lights wouldn’t work. I jumped with leads was fine again rid to work and started back up for home time but then it did it again on the way home. So I changed the battery thought it was fixed then on the way home from steady revs to a lot or if I wind on fully then just let go it lost all power but ignition was on so I was messing with throttle and a few second later was power again it did this twice. A friend has suggested maybe the stator is bad. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you everyone

Just to add also it’s not consistently doing it at high revs but mainly in 6th it’s hit and miss not consistent in the fault

No it usually starts instantly it when I go to the garage turn it off 5 mins down the road it would struggle or not start

When it struggles it’s sounds like it’s struggling to turn over it sounds like its turning over slower and slower the longer I hold in the ignition then sort of wants to turn over a few times then starts or battery dies and over times doesn’t turn over at all battery just dies. I hook the jump leads up then it would fire straight away.

Yes e5 and e10 I only use the e5 don’t use the cheap one

Ethanol is bad for a bike that's been sitting. Fuel injectors could be the issue. If it's available in the UK, mix Sea Foam with the fuel. Follow directions. It may or may not cure the problem.

NO. Not if it’s Esso. I’ve personally tested it in the last 10 days (easy enough to do with a calibrated glass measuring cylinder) and it has zero ethanol

The definition of E5 is that it contains up to five percent ethanol, right? That doesn't mean that it will, but it could if the supplier so chooses.

I've been using Esso Super since I got my bike but they did make some changes last year so it now contains 1-3% ethanol in a few areas of the UK.
