2008 Honda CB1000R clutch pushrod seal replacement – engine split required?

Hello,

I have a question about the 2008 Honda CB1000R. To replace the clutch slave cylinder pushrod seal, do you need to split the engine, or can it be done externally? I have a strange situation: there was a leak on the left side of the oil pan, under the primary drive gear. When I removed the gear cover and took off the clutch slave cylinder, there was no oil on the output shaft, pushrod, or pushrod seal.

I took the motorcycle to a mechanic, and he said the leak came from the pushrod seal because the seal had worn a groove into the pushrod, since the pushrod rotates inside the seal, which caused the oil to start leaking. However, as I mentioned, I didn’t see any oil there myself.

The mechanic said he temporarily fixed it, but to do it properly, the seal would need to be replaced. He also claims that to replace the seal, the engine would have to be split.

Does anyone here know about this? I’ve read conflicting information online. The oil isn’t leaking at the moment. I don’t know exactly what the mechanic did or how.

I would appreciate any help.

Best regards.

No , can be done with the crankcase in place no split , or you can remove just the gearbox from the crankcase for a better and clean job . Sure case split will make the replacea bit easy , to the other side lot of work for the split
