'18 Punchy shifting.

Hello everyone, recently i bought Honda CB1000R '18 NSC and after a while I noticed that when I try to shift gears there is a punch in the gearbox. It's like two metal plates hitting harmfully inside the box. I can hear it especially when I try to downshift from 3 to 2. It's not my first bike and I know how to use lever clutch and how to shift properly :) And yes before downshifting I rev a little to synchronise speed, but it’s all the same difficult to switch smoothly. Thx guys for responses.

If you're using the clutch to downshift then there should be no "two metal plates hitting harmfully inside the box."
I assume you're not the original owner, if so it sounds like you bought a bike with an issue.
Now, this bike does have a slipper assist clutch and feeling a "click" when you pull the clutch lever during deceleration is normal.
oil level/age/type?
quickshifter?
Bike - CB1000R NSC- 2018
Oil - Motul 7100 10w30, and yes it was on minimum level.
QS - Yes

Yes I am not the first owner, but bike has only 10k km on board. And yes I know about "click" feeling, I am not worried about that. But if you say that there shouldn't be any strange metal sound when I am downshifting then it means I should open my gearbox and check every part of it to find the problem :(

Yes you should
BTW there is a video of my friend, I gave him to ride my bike a few days ago. And I found a downshifting moment when the gear goes from 3 to 2 and you can clearly hear this clap/punch sound. Also,I can even feel this punch.

I don't hear it. Maybe someone else will chime in. Anyway, the downshifts should be consistent through every gear.
I'm assuming this bike doesn't have the Honda Quick Shifter.

Yes it has OEM Honda QS.

Then don't use the clutch on downshifts. CLOSE the throttle and leave the clutch alone.
For upshifting the throttle should be in any fixed open position.
The punch on downshifts is rev matching (auto-blip) so keep the throttle closed.

Bro I know how to use QS :) Using the QS doesn't solve the problem. I will try to make video with good sound quality in quiet place to show what I mean.

Your friend was using the clutch on downshifts. I have no idea what your experience level is. There are several members that didn't know how to use the QS.
I doubt anyone here is going to be able to diagnose any issue you think the bike has unless they ride it. No one has posted a similar issue before.
Try this on your next video. At 120kmh in 6th gear, use the QS (and brakes if needed) to bang quickly down through all the gears to 1st. Do that several times in a row.

all i hear is someone using the clutch and manually blipping to change down.. :)

sometimes there is a clunk when manually shifting, from normal slipper clutch backlash.... that is absent when using QS.

oil at the minimum level? add more, it can make a decent difference to shifting/clutch quality.

For what it's worth, I don't hear what the OP is describing either. I second oldcorolla, though. I would top off the oil. Every machine is a bit different and has its own quirks. Perhaps this one wants max oil level. Just a thought.
I had another thought on this matter after riding my bike yesterday. If I pull the clutch in too far, I get a clunking, clanging or banging, however you choose to describe it, every time. If I pull the clutch in just a very little bit I get an almost silent gear change. Every time. I could be wrong, but, maybe this is an attribute of the slipper clutch? Any thoughts?

During upshifts or downshifts? Under deceleration when pulling the clutch you will often feel a click in the lever due to the slipper assist clutch, it's the same on my SC77 SP. That's totally normal. I assume clunking, clanging or banging are not sounds, if so, then you've got a problem. When I use the clutch I pull the lever fully.

This is why sometimes a click can be felt in the clutch lever when pulled during deceleration.

Only on upshifts. I need to clarify, though. The descriptives I used were generic since everyone perceives things differently. I don’t believe it’s a clutch thing. It happens when I physically click the shift lever up into the next gear. It’s more something I feel than something I hear. It‘s a minor thing that I just thought was worth mentioning. The more likely thing is that I just haven’t figured out how my shift/clutch timing after years of using the clutch on my big ole Harley!

The Quick Shifter is standard on the 2023. You don't need the clutch to shift up or down. For upshifting just keep the throttle in any open fixed position, and completely closed for downshifts. Compared to a HD, you shouldn't feel any kind of clunking in the shift lever.
