4k service and no oil change?

I've just read in manual that at 4k service they are not going to change oil and oil filter. Is it a joke? My bike is at the moment at the service and i asked to do so.What do you think?

Re: 4k service and no oil change?

Its probably been filled with fully synthetic, which will do 8k no probs. Most people change the oil anyway if the bike has been laid up all winter, which in my case meant the 4k service was at 2.2k miles. So the choice is yours really.
I compromised, had the oil changed but went to semi syth instead.

There are other threads if you want to debate the fully/semi synth options

    Hope this helps

It wont do any harm being changed more often. I do mine at around 4 thousand cos it makes ME feel better. LOL.

Re: 4k service and no oil change?

When I had mine serivced I asked about the no oil change at 4k miles service. The mechanic said they change at 8k or yearly, which ever come first. As my 4k service was when the bike was a year old the oil and filter where changed during the service. That seemed to make sense. Some cars including Porsche have a 20K service intervals, so 8k miles on a bike before an oil change does not seem excessive.

Re: 4k service and no oil change?

If you have a fully synth in there then you can usually get away with increasing the intervals for a change. If you were using a semi then change a little more frequently.... a fully synth won't break down as quickly as a semi or mineral based
