    laptop issues. Help needed please.

My other half has a Compaq Presario CQ56 cheap laptop.

    Around two years old.

She opened the lid to open it from sleep mode, and all that happened was the power light came on and a flashing light on the 'Caps Lock' button. And that's it............. Bugger all else happens.

I've had a scout round the net and done this.......... Disconnect power lead, and remove battery. Press the power button and hold down for one minute. reconnect the power lead without inserting the battery. Power the laptop up and all should be good.

Well it isn't............... The same problem persists.

Anyone have any idea's of how to sort this out ?

Lots of photo's we don't want to lose........................

Doesn't sound like your power supply but could be the mother board (most expensive bit). I will speak to my son when he gets back from work but worse case is you can remove the hard disk and off load pictures to another PC. Had to do this with my Mac!

    Cheers Paul.

There's power there, but nothing happens..... Seems quite a common problem with HP/Compaq's from what I've read.

In all my years in IT support I have never heard of this type of problem so the only advice I can offer is ..........

    .

Launch it out of the window and buy her a new decent one you cheap skate.

    p.s. this may not help.

Blow is probably correct, Compaq Presario's are quite well known for the motherboard dying , new motherboard (I have replaced 4 motherboards on Presario's now for mates) or laptop required I think. If you get a new one then you can take it into somewhere like PC World or a local PC specialist and get them to copy the old hard drive over (mind you PC World are a bit crappy).

Plenty of local independent PC shops around, try them first, they might even buy what's left of yours from you (£5 is better than nothing).
