"So looks like there will not be a PCV for the 2018 honda CB1000R due to the large closed loop area on the bike. They are now working on a Power Vision for the 2018 honda CB1000R. There is no set release set for this yet as it is still in the testing phase. Thank you."
Is this a good thing?
so that means full reflash instead of piggyback?
guess that means you are starting with a bare engine for tuning, instead of anything Honda put in their for tuning finesse..
depends what you want out of the bike...
As far as my understanding goes is that the PowerVision will take a copy of the Factory ECU map file, store it and then you get given various options of pre-installed maps to re-flash your ECU. So, the original is always there for you to revert to if needs be.
I did send Richard a quick email asking for updates on the progress last week after he popped over to read the ECU data off my bike and his reply was basically it's going to be some time. The DynoJet chap he's been dealing with in the US hasn't heard back from the engineers on this one yet.
I am very surprised and a little gutted it's taken almost 9 months so far. I understand it's a complex product with lots of technical hurdles but it has taken a while. Ho hum
Pretty much anything I can find on Power Vision seems to be about Harleys. I really want to understand what sort of improvements should be possible. Can we have our bottom end back?
Harley's in the US are a massive market for the Powervision. By all accounts it's a great product. Fingers crossed
There may be some mechancal things also.
While i can't imagine the cams are significantly more radical, the TB's are 50% larger (by area) (36 vs 44mm), so the ports must be similar for some of their length..
Maybe that affects port velocity?
Maybe port length deliberately affects harmonics in 4-6000 range?
Mid range likely killed for emissions, but maybe not just electronically?
The original press releases said..
" It's four-cylinder engine has been tuned to make 16% more peak power at just over 10,000rpm and 5% more torque right through the mid-range"
Maybe the mid-range hole is just relative..
From same press release..
"Development concentrated on improving gas flow into, through and out of the cylinder head. Valve lift is higher with inlet at 8.5mm and exhaust 8.1mm (as opposed to 7.9/7.8mm). A 44mm diameter throttle body (up 8mm) feeds larger diameter inlet ports; the shape of the combustion chambers is also revised. "
