i was quoted £65 .. the transponder requires the bike to be present at the making of the key .. also its of the more complicated/expensive variety .. or so i was told.

here .. https://www.nlssecurity.co.uk/ .. they do lots since there are a number of bike shops nearby.

    From CB1000R manual ..........

To reproduce keys, bring all keys, key number plate and motorcycle to your Honda dealer.

Up to four keys can be registered with the immobiliser system (HISS), including the ones in hand.

If all keys are lost, the PGM-FI unit/ignition control module must be replaced.

To avoid this possibility we recommend that if only one key is left, you immediately have it reproduced to ensure that a back up is available.

(the key number plate is the small tag on the original key ring with a unique number on).

Fingers crossed the key you have isn't the fourth one.

Did you buy it from a dealer ??-----If so then maybe the dealer might give you the previous owners address or if not, contact him for you.

Never know. It might be worth a try.--

It sounds like the original owner kept the key with the small tab as the spare. Then either lost it or didn't pass it on with the sale of the bike.

Best scenario is you have key number 2 - so possible to get two more programmed before big bucks.

Worst case you have key number 4 - start saving up.

Assuming the barrel hasn't been changed I would think the dealer could get key information from the chassis number.

Whatever you do, you are doing the right thing before it becomes a major problem.

    Good luck

p.s. Just a thought you could try contact the last owner through info on the logbook or through the dealer.

Mel. Don't think the chassis number would give info on the key or every tea-leaf would be at it.---
