Which oil for first oil change?

Hi, just got a new 2013 CB1000R in GA, US. I am sure this is discussed before, but I couldn't find any posts where GN4 or HP4S is mentioned. Anyhow, which oil should I use for the first oil change? GN4 (dino) or HP4S (full synthetic)? I am not going to riding hard during this period.

Congratulations on the new bike. First off you'll be surprised at what comes out at the first change! I sure was. Full synthetic is a great but expensive choice. I use the GN4 which is half and half dino/syn. Also, a lot of guys have tried a fram or other filters but I stayed with OEM. Resist the urge to change the oil at 2000 miles as the oil was still clean and I wasted $50. Check your bolts for proper torque. There is a link to bolt specs here on the forum. Be safe, enjoy and look forward to some pictures!

Full synthetic it is then. How many quarts or liters will I need?

I've been using just my hand to take out and install the oil filter on my CB900F. Never had an issue. Would anything go wrong if I do the same with CB1000R? The way I did it, I was not using all my strength to tighten it. Just enough.

Do you all use PJ1 blue for the chain? From the factory, the chain is lubed with a white shiny oil (lithium grease?) Can I find that stuff anywhere?

Plus to add to Colverts comments........ semi synthetic is a dubious point, So is that 10% or 90% synthetic?
Umm marketing ploy I reckon to bang the price up. Unless you are talking MIL spec. detail then the categories of oil specifications are quite wide (read generous).

Stick to Fully synthetic and then you know reasonably well what you are putting in

I've used semi synthetic in bikes for years. Absolutely no problem. I put 10 40 in mine but honda do favour 10 30. Either will do.

Don't think Honda even recommend fully synthetic oil for this bike,I have always used 10/40 Motul or Rock oil

10W-40 GN4 every 2k to 3k mi. Cheap and easy to get for me.

I know they have advanced and I know fully synthetic oil is better than semi but there is NO NEED for it in the cb1000r.
I remember an artical in bike (I think) magazine and the bloke in there had run his 900 hornet on car grade castrol gtx and had covered over 90,000 miles with no problems.
If enough people tell you blacks White would you believe them. It's all about advertising and selling
