Post Battery dead??
Hi everyone.

Does anyone had any problem with the battery? Mine last Monday morning refused to turn the bike on, so I unplugged it and went to my dealer, who found that strange but recharge it anyway. But yesterday just after I stopped the bike to put some fuel the battery went dead again... Today I left it at the Dealer again and they told me that this batteries have a short life (???) but I have to take there the bike so they could check it out. My bike is from July of 2008 and has 20000kms, is this the normal period of a battery? Oh, and last Friday I dropped the bike, just a few scratches and nothing more, could it be related?

Sorry for the poor English... :emb

My bike's from July '08 with 25k km.

No problems with the battery, even during the past few weeks.

You could have loosened a connection when you came off so it's worth getting the dealer to check the charging circuit

Mine wouldn't start after a 6 week break because of snow, holidays etc. After a jump start it soon charged up again, though. There's no way the battery should be finished that quickly! (Mine's a July '08, too)

My Aprilia used almost a battery a year, even on the optimate. Without a trickle charge, it would die in 2 weeks. The reason was the Datatool alarm, coupled with the excess load on firing a v-twin 1000. You have alarms fitted maybe ? They drain badly in the winter months .

This morning I went to the Dealer an picked up the battery charged, returned home, put it on the bike and went back so they could check the charging circuit. They didn't found anything wrong, so they will ask for a new battery under the warranty. This should take 2 to 3 days... So I went back home, turned off the bike, waited a few seconds and try to turn it on again and the battery dead again... :banghead

I drive my bike everyday and don't have any alarm installed.

I vaguely recall someone having some kind of short, possibly in replacement indicators or something, that killed battery charge a while back. Could be related?

As the bike was dropped is there any possibility the 'bank angle sensor' which cuts ignition power in the event of a fall is possibly playing up-cutting out interrmittently ? This is unlikely but just occurred to me. :notme

Same problem here, mine died again this morning at a petrol station on my way to work, had to push the bike and bump start it (for the first time, but luckily worked fine). This is after having charged it on the optimate only a few days ago, but my problem is that my commute is very short so the bike never charges well. Still, it shouldn't die this quick, I'm thinking the last time it discharged there was some permanent damage done, so I'm going to replace it.

Well, I picked my new battery today, so tomorrow I will install it and see how it goes... I found it strange that at my dealer they so easily replaced it under the warranty... I'm a good customer, but even so...

Been riding bikes for 500 years (well, not quite), I have never had a problem with any battery, so either I'm very lucky or the odd one or two that suffer these problems must have had a dodgy battery fitted from the start....? :notme

Glad your Dealer took responsbility and got you sorted ok. :thumbup
