I'm probably in the minority on this, but has anyone ripped off the stock muffler immediately after getting their CB only to realize a year or more later that it looks like something is missing? I have come to realize that that crazy stock exhaust is too big a part of the styling of the bike to just ignore and remove. I have the Ixil muffler on my bike and it looks cool and sounds good, but I'm considering putting the stock muff back on. I'm not worried about weight or performance... Thoughts?
Thanks, yeah, Some stockies look like they were an afterthought to the overall design, but the CBs is definitely not. Removing it messes with the lines too much.
But I'm not giving up my Ixil. It looks like the original should have.
Now ... If there were a good looking alternative that filled in the space left by the original and combined lean shotgun looks like the Ixil, well I might be swayed. But only maybe.
I agree, I said I wouldn't change mine as i felt very few followed the lines and I couldn't justify the expense. I don't like the smaller ones as I feel they bring the sound to close your ear level and leave a lot of space shown.
Then I was offered this one second hand at a good price and I love arrows, plus it follows the lines. I bought it then kept an eye out for a carbon cat cover to finish it off which luckily didn't take to long to find.
Must have kept the original on for 4 years always felt it looked good.

I've kept mine for the same reason. The only aftermarket exhaust I liked the look of was the HP Corse, but even that I was kind of "meh" on. Plus, I do a lot of long days on my bike, and the idea of a loud exhaust droning at me for 7-8 hours doesn't appeal.
There was one member who powdercoated his heat shield though, and it looks trick - I'm seriously tempted to do mine the same way.
I bought my Leo Vince because of how it looks, that's it. I didn't care for sound or performance as they all sound awesome. The Leo, to me, fit the look of the bike best with a belly pan.
The stock isn't terrible, aside from the fact that it's HUGE!

I like the look of the bike, but if I could choose, I'd have a more svelt exhaust. Maybe just take a hacksaw to that seam where the silencer starts ;-)
I does look good - but £15k for the BASE model - litre superbikes (base model machines) are now £15k-£20k (with the bells on) - I think that takes a lot if us out of contention except via PCP....
^^^ there was actually a thread 4 or 5 years ago from a member who cut open the exhaust, removed pretty much all the guts, and welded it back together. I searched and couldn't find it...
That would probably be the best upgrade tbh, as you would get the benefit of more power, the benefit of better looks (all in the eye of the beholder) and reduced weight from ridding your bike of a MASSIVE cat.
To be fair to the standard unit its not bad looking by the standards of some of the fugly units that the Euro emissions require..... but i prefer my Ixil, its small which shows off the gorgeous back wheel, couple this with the removal of the rear pegs and the back of the bike looks like it always should of, the weight saving and the noise are simply a bonus as i commute in the summer on mine and need something louder for the deaf half wits in the cars. I am not against the standard but it is one big ' mother ' when compared to the ' supermodel' Ixil.
in my case i love how it looks, but hate that its too close to the ground... at least where i live every time i go through a speed bump if I dont almost do a complete stop the exhaust hits the speedbump and scratches it.... I feel pain every time it happens lol
I really love the stock exhaust, it is very rare to have a stock that looks good on a bike.
But put one aftermarket that in my opinion it stays great, and makes the rear wheel look good.
My bikes previous owner went down the route of keeping the stock look and decatting the exhaust and fitting a PCIII. I quite like the look of both the carbon exhaust heat shield and the powder coated look.
I literally owned my bike for about 4 hours before ordering the mid size Delkevic Carbon Fiber w/ cat delete kit. Love it so far!
