Hydro_t - My beloved CB1000R to rise from the ashes!

Many of you may have seen my introductory post. I have only been riding this brand new bike for about 5 months! I had an unfortunate low slide incident last Tuesday (15th Feb 2016)

It was the coldest day I have experienced as a commuting bike rider and I really should have listened to the little voice inside my head that was telling me it was too cold (-5) and when I was de-icing my wife's car before I set off, the ice was reforming on her windscreen. (I guess it was my inner ego telling me I should be able to deal with this!) As I set off on my bike, within five meters of leaving my drive the back wheel started to overtake the front and I was low sliding on the exhaust side of the bike and I was sprawling along the floor. So embarrassing!
So the damage can be seen in the attached photographs but it included

    Bent handle bar
    Snapped brake lever
Snapped bar end and broken throttle assembly
    Scrapped crank case
    Snapped foot peg
    scrapped rear passenger pegs
    Dented and scrapped exhaust
    Snapped and scrapped seat unit
Completely mangled R&G Crash protector (Which did an amazing job!)
Shredded bike clothing (which again did an amazing job! and proves to all those scooter riders to get proper motorbike gear!)

It is a gutting experience but I want to take this opportunity to document that there can be an upside to this miserable episode and I am taking this opportunity to upgrade some parts on the bike (some I will do myself) and hopefully showcase some great work that my local Honda dealer have offered to do (Crescent Motorcycles, Southampton).

I am looking to get an IXIL exhaust, Oberton bar end mirrors, R&G protectors all round, R&G tail tidy....

so hopefully, I can add posts as the bike gets fixed

    Watch this space!

    Hi Geordie

Yes I believe so. Obviously I would have preferrred not to have crashed full stop. but in my photo you can see that the crash protectors took a heavy impact and was shredded by almost 10mm by the time the bike stopped sliding along the floor (approx. 10m)
I have no damage on the front fairing and the tank whatsoever. The brake lever snapping and the bar end coming off are unfortunate but to still have the majority of the front end intact was fairly good and I can't imagine the damage that may have been caused if the fairing and engine components were taking the brunt of the slide. Certainly I feel the £35 (a side) I paid for the crash protectors was better than spending £100s on new fairings and tank.
I wish I bought the crank case protectors (block ones not the covers). It would have probably saved that silly little damage you see on the crankcase below the shredded protector!
