    Washer inside engine cover

I asked the garage to replace the right hand cover gasket, as i had a small weeping leak.

they found a washer on the inside, that they couldnt see on the Honda parts list

the weird thing is, i have had the bike since 12k miles / 2011 and i have never had the side cover off!

I cant think how or why the washer would be there.

They didnt replace it but gave me the washer. I will keep an eye on any more leaks,

    weird!

It is meant to be in there, It goes over one of the shafts that is supported by the cover. I am struggling to remember which one, I will try and find some info from the manual mate.

I think it is the thrust washer off of the starter idler gear, see the picture below.

That makes me feel better, now I know I am not the only one with "extra parts" left after working on my bike, LOL

Wow...that's really dumb. You need a new mechanic. Thank goodness it wasn't your brakes they worked on!

Hopefully it hasn't eaten up the side cover yet, though I seriously doubt it would in such a short period of time since the idler only turns when cranking the engine.
